Selmak is the commander of the RRW Apophis II, the Apophis II is a romulan republic built D'deridex warbird, replacing the original that was destroyed during the Iconian war.

Selmak and his twin brother Tanith were born in 2378 on Romulan colony Virinat the day after the Hobus supernova. They were raised alone by their mother.

Their father was killed a month before their birth attempting to help members of the underground movement escape Romulus, it is believed the Tal Shiar had a hand in this. It is because of this belief the bothers have a deep hatred of the Tal Shair and the former Empire.

Both brothers joined the Romulan Republic under the leadership of D'Tan in 2409 and moved to New Romulus. They both accepted commissions in the Republic Navy however Selmak aligned with the Federation and his brother with the Klingon Empire.
